About the Trust

The Maryhill Burgh Halls Trust was formed in November 2004.

It is a community based initiative that is a partnership between local residents, Cube and Maryhill Housing Associations, Glasgow City Council, Elected Members and officers of local organisations.

Structure of the Trust

The Board of the Trust is made up of members that between them have a considerable amount of relevant experience and skills to offer the Trust and guide it in the right direction.  Current Board Members include the Chief Executive of Cube Housing Association, the Director and Vice Chair of Maryhill Housing Association, and the Chair of the local Community Council, who LAO owns and runs a local business.

Seven of the Board members are local residents and several are committee members of local housing organisations and have been or are active in Community Development Work in the area over a number of years. One individual Board member is a local councillor on Glasgow City Council. The manager of Shakespeare Street Youth Club, who has been active in youth work in the area for around 20 years is also a Board member as is a member of staff of the Youth Club who lives locally.

Also on the Board is the former Administrator on the Management team at East Park, an organisation based in Maryhill, which has provided education and supported accommodation for children and young people with disabilities since 1874.

The Board is also supported by an experienced writer and former teacher who has had work published on local history in Maryhill and who has researched in detail the history of the Stained Glass Panels by Stephen Adam.

In addition, the Board is assisted by experienced staff from all of the partner organisations, and the Project Co-ordinator who has significant experiences of complex urban regeneration and historic restoration projects.

The Trust has directly employed a part time Heritage Development Officer since April 2010, and appointed a part time permanent Halls Manager in April 2011.  The Trust is also supported and guided by very experienced technical, business planning, legal and property management and marketing consultants.
