EXHIBITION: Jo Sunshine Art
Jo Sunshine is a visually impaired artist based in Glasgow. Jo lost her eyesight in an accident fifteen years ago, when the car she was travelling in rolled off the motorway.
Jo is completely blind in her left eye and only has a misty blur in her right so draws everything large and in bold colours. Outlining the images in black helps her to see the image and leads to her distinct style.
Maryhill Burgh Halls Trust would like to extend a special thanks to Jo Sunshine for allowing us to showcase her beautiful artwork.
The exhibition is open to the public Monday-Friday from 10am-5pm at our back foyer.
Exhibition: The Glasgow Coat of Arms
WE ARE OPEN MONDAY-FRIDAY, 10AM-5PM
20th April - 27th May 2026
The history of the Glasgow Coat of Arms is the history of Glasgow itself. Inspired by the stories of St Mungo, Glasgow’s patron saint, the city’s emblem has evolved over hundreds of years.
The bird, tree, bell and fish have appeared in many different forms over time with additions, omissions and adaptations shaping the familiar symbols we still see across the city today.
This exhibition features pictures contributed by Glaswegians -old and new- showing both familiar takes on historic versions of the City Arms and fresh, original designs.
WE ARE OPEN MONDAY-FRIDAY, 10AM-5PM

Film Screening: Everybody to Kenmure Street
Doors Open: 16:00
Film Starts: 16:30
Maryhill Against Racism* in partnership with Maryhill Burgh Halls Trust are pleased to present a community showing of Everybody to Kenmure Street (12A).
On 13 May 2021, the Home Office staged a dawn raid on Kenmure Street in Pollokshields. Glasgow-based documentarian Felipe Bustos Sierra (director of Nae Pasaran!) takes us right down to street level to show what happened next in his immersive film. He recreates the spontaneous act of civil resistance that sprang up as the multicultural community came together on a shared mission to stop their neighbours’ deportation. Blending crowd-sourced footage with a clever re-enactment featuring verbatim testimony from those who were there, Sierra takes us inside the eight-hour stand-off that demonstrated the power of peaceful solidarity. Everybody to Kenmure Street recently won the Special Jury Award at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.
Join us to watch together and celebrate the power of community.

Exhibition: Cafe D’Jaconelli - A scottish-italian story
WE ARE OPEN MONDAY-FRIDAY, 10AM-5PM
6th February - 10th April 2026
This exhibition explores the story of Cafè d’Jaconelli, a long-standing Italian café in Maryhill and its place within Scotland’s Scottish-Italian history.
Using the café as a lens, the exhibition looks at Italian migration to Scotland, family-run café culture, and the everyday labour behind places that become local institutions. Through photographs and personal memories, it traces how Cafè d’Jaconelli has shaped its community for over a century.
Italian cafés have played a central role in Scottish social life, often passed down through generations and rooted in neighbourhoods like Maryhill. This exhibition places Cafè d’Jaconelli within that wider story, focusing on continuity, work, and belonging rather than nostalgia alone.
Developed in collaboration with the Jaconelli family and James Evans.
WE ARE OPEN MONDAY-FRIDAY, 10AM-5PM

Exhibition: Jessie Stephen - Maryhill's Suffragette
11th March - 13th June 2025
This exhibition brings to light the remarkable story and achievements of Jessie Stephen (1893-1979), a working-class woman who became a powerful force of social change.
Born in 1893, Jessie Stephen was a fearless campaigner and one of the few working-class Scottish suffragettes that we know anything about. Growing up in Maryhill and working as a domestic servant in her early years, Jessie dedicated her life to championing workers’ rights, women’s suffrage, and social justice. Her activism extended beyond the suffragette movement, leading her to a lifelong political career as a trade unionist, councillor, and advocate for equality.
This exhibition delves into her journey from a young domestic servant in Glasgow to a national activist, highlighting her dedication to improving the lives of others until the very end. Jessie Stephen’s legacy is one of courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to justice.

EXHIBITION: Outside In
NOTE: The building is closed for the festive season between 21st December to 5th January
Outside In is a migrant-led interactive photography exhibition which tells stories of how migrants bring the world to Scotland and have made it their home.
Outside In features people from 21 countries, from across the Middle East, Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania, exploring how migrants have influenced different areas of life, from fashion to tea brewing and martial arts. Visitors can not only learn but also contribute their insights about migrant communities and Scottish links to their countries.
This exhibition is part of the Putting Ourselves in the Picture project. It aims to ensure that migrant heritage is documented and recognised as part of Scotland’s heritage.
Outisde In has been organised by Migrant Voice and was funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund.
About Migrant Voice: a migrant-led national organisation which builds a community of migrant voices to speak for ourselves and call for justice for all. Working together across different communities they aim to transform the debate around migration, campaign to protect migrants’ rights, and challenge racism, xenophobia, and discrimination.
We are open Mon-Fri, 10am-5pm
