At the heart of this exhibition is The Canal Locks Maryhill (1879), a painting by Andrew Maclaren Law showing Lock 22, the lockkeeper's cottage, and canal life near the Kelvin Aqueduct.

What looks like a quiet Victorian scene holds more than you'd think. We've traced the lock-keeper's family and their working lives on the canal, and uncovered how the painting itself vanished for 138 years before turning up at auction in 2018. Even The Whitehouse, quietly in the background, has its own story, one we're now part of.

Presented with Scottish Canals, the exhibition explores the wider tale of the Forth & Clyde Canal, from its engineering roots to the work still shaping its future today.
