Exhibition: Cafe D’Jaconelli - A scottish-italian story

  • Maryhill Burgh Halls 10-24 Gairbraid Avenue Glasgow, G20 8YE Scotland (map)

WE ARE OPEN MONDAY-FRIDAY, 10AM-5PM

6th February - 10th April 2026

This exhibition explores the story of Cafè d’Jaconelli, a long-standing Italian café in Maryhill and its place within Scotland’s Scottish-Italian history.

Using the café as a lens, the exhibition looks at Italian migration to Scotland, family-run café culture, and the everyday labour behind places that become local institutions. Through photographs and personal memories, it traces how Cafè d’Jaconelli has shaped its community for over a century.

Italian cafés have played a central role in Scottish social life, often passed down through generations and rooted in neighbourhoods like Maryhill. This exhibition places Cafè d’Jaconelli within that wider story, focusing on continuity, work, and belonging rather than nostalgia alone.

Developed in collaboration with the Jaconelli family and James Evans.
